The Supreme Personality of Godhead, Sri Kṛṣṇa and Balarāma are the transcendental thieves. They want to exchange loving devotional relationships with their devotees, the Gopīs. Kṛṣṇa and Balarāma thus respond to the devotional wanting of Gopīs and venture to steal butter from houses of Gopīs. However, although the Gopīs want that Kṛṣṇa and Balarāma steal butter from them, yet they want that the transcendental thieves struggle for it so that they can exchange loving devotional relationship with The Supreme Lord. While Kṛṣṇa and Balarāma want to somehow snatch the butter pot, the Gopīs want to protect the butter pots that they are carrying from the two brothers by surrounding them and locking their way. Either Kṛṣṇa and Balarāma succeed in stealing the butter pots or the gopīs succeed in blocking them completely.
